About this work
A barefoot young boy stands before a pale stone wall beneath a blue sky, wearing a red cap, a brown cloak draped over his shoulders, a green vest, white trousers and a patterned neckerchief. The loose, sketch-like brushwork and warm earth tones give the figure a direct, informal presence. The work is titled A Neopolitan Fisherboy, painted by Richard Buckner in 1842 and held in the Royal Collection.
