About this work
A view of a calm bay with a large sailing ship at anchor on the right, its masts and rigging visible, while smaller boats are drawn up or rowed near a rocky shore on the left. Rocky cliffs and wooded hills recede into a misty distance under a heavy, cloud-filled sky. This painting by Jan Porcellis, dated 1624, is held in the Royal Collection.
