About this work
The painting shows a richly furnished Renaissance-style interior with a carved stone fireplace and a checkered marble floor. A man in a fur-trimmed brown cloak holds out a folded letter to a bearded man in a gold-trimmed coat, while a seated woman in an embroidered gown and other figures look on. Signed by Wilhelm Koller and dated 1860, the work is held in the Royal Collection.
