About this work
A three-quarter length portrait of a man with long dark curled hair and a moustache, wearing polished steel armour over a dark garment with a white lace collar. He rests one hand on a sword and his other arm on a plinth beside a jewelled gold crown and sceptre against a cloudy sky. Peter Lely painted this work in 1670, and it is held in the Royal Collection.
