About this work

The painting shows a formal wedding ceremony in a Gothic interior, with a bride in a white gown and a groom in a red military uniform standing before a crowd of officers and richly dressed attendants. Bridesmaids in pale dresses carry pink bouquets, and the ornate stone arches and patterned carpet frame the scene. This is James Dromgole Linton's painting The Marriage of the Duke of Albany, 27th April 1882, dated 1885.
