About this work
A painting in gold-ground style shows two seated figures in patterned robes on a wooden veranda overlooking a winding stream with rocks and a pine tree. Gold clouds frame the scene, and a willow and a lattice blind appear at the edges. The work is attributed to Tosa Mitsuyoshi and held by the Princeton University Art Museum, illustrating Chapter Forty-Four, “Bamboo River,” from The Tale of Genji.
