A painted view looks out through a large dark cave opening toward a sunlit landscape of rolling hills, scattered trees, and a small body of water in the foreground. A seated figure rests among the boulders at the lower right, and the bright sky with cumulus clouds contrasts with the shadowed rock framing the scene. This painting, Cueva de las Palomas (Valencia), was made by Mariano Belmonte y Vacas in 1864 and is held by the Museo del Prado.
