This religious painting by Mateo Gilarte, dated 1651 and held by the Museo del Prado, depicts the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple. A bearded elder in a red and gold embroidered vestment and mitre holds the infant Christ, while the kneeling Virgin Mary in a blue mantle prays with clasped hands. Cherub heads and a dove of the Holy Spirit appear among the clouds above the assembled figures.
