About this work

A dimly lit domestic interior shows a priest standing beside a bed where a soldier in a blue uniform with red trousers lies, while a woman in a brown dress bows her head over him. A group of onlookers, including a woman holding a child, gathers at a doorway marked 8, and a framed printed notice hangs on the cracked wall. This painting by Luis García Sampedro is dated 1892 and is held by the Museo del Prado.
