About this work
This oil painting depicts a violent battle scene in which a haloed rider on a white horse charges forward while a winged angel holds a white banner with a red cross above him. Fallen warriors, struggling horses, and armored soldiers fill the foreground, with further combat visible across a hillside under a dramatic, clouded sky.
