About this work
A formal court assembly fills a richly decorated red-walled hall, with a richly dressed king standing on a raised dais beneath a canopy while crowds of courtiers in wigs and embroidered coats gather around him. The ceiling is painted with a fresco of clouds and cherubs, and tall windows light the room from the right. This Museo del Prado painting by Antonio Joli is dated 1759.
