About this work
A pen and ink drawing shows a nude male figure braced on a rock in churning water, one arm raised gripping a pole while an octopus tentacle coils around his other arm. Ink drawing sketch of tentacles hangs from the upper left and right. This design by Achille Granchi-Taylor from 1921 was made as a cover vignette for the Gilliatt and the octopus episode of Victor Hugo's Toilers of the Sea.
