About this work

A charcoal or chalk drawing on tan paper shows a low, steep-roofed thatched hut with a dark doorway and a pale rectangular opening in its earthen walls. Dense hatched strokes render the straw roof, while a bush and open ground appear at the right. The work is attributed to Auguste Péquégnot and held by the Musée Carnavalet, Paris, under the title Vue d'une masure aux Buttes-Chaumont.
