About this work
A 1915 poster by an anonymous French artist, titled Journee de Paris, 14 Juillet 1915, shows a woman in a dark hat cradling an infant while holding a collection can. Behind her rises the Hotel de Ville, and below, a seated soldier and a burning house evoke the war, with a child wrapped in a flag. The lettered list beneath names the beneficiaries: combatants, wounded, convalescents, maimed, refugees and prisoners.
