About this work
A nineteenth-century French circus poster advertising nightly performances at the Cirque d'Hiver under the title Paris en l'air. The lower panel shows a lit arena with mounted cavalry in plumed helmets, white horses, a carriage with an officer in blue uniform, and flaming torches beneath tricolour banners. The poster is by an anonymous French artist, dated 1888, and is held by the Musée Carnavalet, Paris.
