About this work
This 1883 French theatre poster, published by an anonymous 19th-century artist, advertises Bargeon as an illusionist and anti-spiritualist at the Théâtre de la Ville. The chromolithographic design shows a chained woman on a cross, a skeleton, uniformed soldiers aiming rifles, and grotesque horned figures around a framed portrait of a moustached man in evening dress.
