About this work
This 1880 poster by an anonymous 19th-century French artist advertises the Théâtre du Châtelet production of Michel Strogoff. A mounted soldier on a white horse fills the left foreground, while a line of dancing women in red and white costumes and rows of lanterns occupy the upper scene. The lower right shows a battlefield strewn with fallen soldiers beneath a watchtower.
