About this work
A colorful satirical caricature shows Uncle Sam asleep in a green armchair with an eagle perched beside him, surrounded by newspapers labeled as jingoist publications. Around him, dreamlike vignettes depict naval battles, annexation of islands such as Cuba, and coastal defenses, with the Monroe Doctrine scroll displayed nearby. The print is by Udo Keppler, dated 1895, and was published by Keppler & Schwarzmann.
