About this work
A large sphinx with a bearded face resembling a man, labeled "Hughes" on its chest, dominates a dark desert scene. Two stone pedestals inscribed "Senate" and "Assembly" flank its paws, while a group of small figures in the foreground crouch among scattered stone blocks. This 1908 print by Udo Keppler is a political cartoon from the record.
