About this work
A colored lithograph shows a seated Uncle Sam in a star-spangled coat and striped trousers, holding his head amid two opposing crowds of musicians. Each side marches behind a banner, one reading "G.O.P. Salvation Army" and the other "The Bryan Volunteers of America," playing drums, horns and tambourines. Newspapers on his lap bear headlines such as "Prospects" and "Resumption of Business," and the work is credited to Udo Keppler, 1908.
