About this work
A colored lithograph by Udo Keppler, dated 1910, shows a fervent preacher in a dark coat gesturing with a book beneath a hanging banner reading "Watch, therefore, for ye know neither the day nor hour, but Lookout for the 8th of November." Caricatured men are seated on a mourners bench and crowded into a tent lit by hanging lamps, with one listener holding a hat to his ear. The scene uses the setting of a revival meeting to satirize political campaigning.
