About this work
A colorful political cartoon shows a large turkey labeled Democratic Party defending a line of yellow chicks bearing caricatured faces and names, while a hawk swoops in from the upper right. A haystack, split-rail fence, and distant farmhouse frame the rural scene. The print is titled The hawk, created by Udo Keppler in 1912.
