About this work
A dark, dramatic caricature shows a grinning fireman in a cap and coat shoveling human bodies into a large furnace, while more bodies lie in a pile on the floor. The figure's coat is labeled "Criminal Negligence," and a smokestack and fiery sky frame the scene. Udo Keppler created this print, dated 1907.
