About this work
A colorful lithograph shows a bearded Uncle Sam figure in striped trousers and a white shirt, struggling against serpents that wrap around him and two men: a businessman in a brown suit and a shirtless worker. The snakes are labeled with the words TARIFF and UNCERTAINTY, and the figures stand above a classical columned government building on a cliff. The print is titled Laocoon in the toils and was issued by Udo Keppler in 1911.
