About this work

A man in period dress sits on the bowsprit of a sailing ship at night, holding a dead white albatross whose wing bears the word "Great" and a red inscription. A yellow arrow pierces the bird, and the dark sea and rigging frame the scene. This 1913 print by Udo Keppler was published in Puck.
