About this work
A color lithograph in the form of a political cartoon, with a winged, sword-bearing officer in a white uniform striding toward a flag labeled Spirit of Freedom held by a female figure above a burning landscape marked Transvaal. Behind him stand caricatured figures representing a subsidized press, police, royal crusaders and absolutism under a sunburst bearing a double-headed eagle and the words Divine Right. The work is credited to Udo Keppler and dated 1896.
