About this work
A colored lithograph by Udo Keppler titled Extra session of the House of Representatives of the Fifty-fifth Congress, dated 1897. A large, heavyset man lounges with his legs stretched across rows of empty desks in a bright legislative chamber, while a smaller figure at the rostrum holds a gavel beneath an American flag. The caricature style and copyright line identify it as a Keppler and Schwarzmann publication.
