About this work
A dramatic interior scene shows a disheveled man seated on a bed, gesturing upward with one arm while clutching his chest, as a dog sits attentively on a wooden chair nearby. Faint sketched portraits of women float on the wall beside a door, while papers and crumpled fabric lie on the floor. Charles Dana Gibson made this print, published in 1893-1900 and titled The fallen star.
