About this work
This triptych woodblock print shows uniformed soldiers in dark blue coats advancing through a snowstorm between tall tree trunks, some carrying rifles and others pressing forward through the snow. A faint pagoda and a pale moon appear in the misty background. The work is a Japanese print by Kobayashi Kiyochika, dated 1895, and is titled Great Fierce Battle in the Snow near Niuzhuang.
