About this work
This triptych print depicts a naval engagement at sea, with a large dark-hulled ship listing steeply in choppy waves while sailors in red leap into the water. Other warships fire through billowing smoke on the left and right, and a fortified shoreline with flags appears at the right edge under a dark, cloudy sky. The work is titled The Sino-French War and was created by Inoue Tankei in 1884.
