About this work

A hand-colored lithographic plate shows two views of a gilded ceremonial breastplate with shoulder straps, alongside separate decorative clasps and a tassel. The armor is built from rows of overlapping gold and silver plates, with a large round medallion at the chest and a scale bar along the bottom. The Cyrillic caption identifies the armor as belonging to Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich. This print is by Fedor Grigoryevich Solntsev and dates from 1849 to 1853.
