About this work
A chromolithographic reproduction of a gilded Russian Orthodox icon shows clergy in embroidered vestments and a crowd of worshippers gathered before a golden shrine holding a sacred cloth. Above, green arches and gilded onion domes frame a scene of the Dormition of the Virgin, and the Cyrillic inscriptions along the top border sit within an ornate silver-and-gold frame.
