About this work
This hand-coloured print shows an elaborately carved ivory throne with a gilded cushion, a high back with a double-headed eagle roundel, and relief panels depicting mythical creatures and figural scenes. Three separate detail studies at the upper left show winged horses, floral ornament and interlaced scrollwork. The work is credited to Fedor Grigoryevich Solntsev and dated 1849 to 1853.
