About this work
This chromolithographic plate presents several views of a kovsh, a traditional Russian ceremonial drinking vessel, shown in front, side, and cross-section, with its gilded inscription bands reproduced in full. A central medallion bears a double-headed eagle set in blue enamel, and the ornamented cup and handle are rendered in yellow and gray tones. The plate is attributed to Fedor Grigoryevich Solntsev and dated 1849 to 1853.
