About this work
This chromolithographic plate shows ancient gold breastplates from several angles, with jeweled settings, filigree borders and a central enamel panel of a haloed saint holding a cross. Smaller pendants, clasps and engraved line drawings of decorative elements are arranged around the main pieces. The Cyrillic caption at the bottom identifies the objects as ancient gold breastplates, in a work by Fedor Grigoryevich Solntsev dated 1849 to 1853.
