About this work
A chromolithographic plate shows an ornate ceremonial collar, the barma, with purple velvet covered in gold and silver scrollwork and small oval medallions containing figures. A pleated gold fabric backing curls beneath it on a cream background. The Russian caption at the bottom identifies the plate as showing ancient barma embroidery, from the work by Fedor Grigoryevich Solntsev dated 1849 to 1853.
