About this work
A sepia-toned print shows a vast city engulfed in fire and smoke at night, seen from a stone terrace with an ornate iron railing. A large nude statue stands at the right edge, while a crowd of robed figures gathers near a stone parapet, and a classical temple rises on a distant hill. The print is titled L'incendie de Rome - Chant de Néron and is attributed to Jan Styka, dated 1922.
