About this work

A decorative print shows four women's heads, each wearing an elaborate ornamented headdress with beadwork, jewels and pearl-like embellishment, along with layered beaded necklaces and drop earrings. The figures are framed by a richly patterned border of interlaced knots, foliage and gold-toned motifs. The Cyrillic caption beneath identifies the headgear of Tikhvin and Belozer women and girls, and the plate is credited to Fedor Grigoryevich Solntsev, dated 1849-1853.
