About this work

A hand-colored plate shows a konchar, a Russian sword, in several views, including full-length profiles, a crossguard detail, and two ornamented scabbard panels. The hilt, guard, and scabbard are rendered in gold tones with inset turquoise-like cabochon stones and floral and scrollwork engraving. The Cyrillic caption identifies the object as a konchar with silver-gilt scabbard, and the plate is attributed to Fedor Grigoryevich Solntsev, dated 1849-1853.
