About this work
A hand-colored lithograph from Fedor Grigoryevich Solntsev's series of traditional Russian costume plates, dated 1849-1853, shows several pairs of mittens arranged on a cream background. Some mittens are made of red and green floral brocade, others of gold quilted fabric with red stitching, and the right-hand pair is deep red velvet with diamond quilting. The plate is labeled with the Russian title and plate number 56 at the bottom.
