About this work
A hand-coloured lithographic plate shows a grand ceremonial sceptre and its separate decorative components, including a column-like shaft, jewelled bands, rosette medallions, and an eagle-topped finial. A small uncoloured study of ornament appears at the upper left beside the coloured elements. The plate is titled "Sceptre from the first habit" and is attributed to Fedor Grigoryevich Solntsev, dated 1849-1853.
