About this work
This etching, titled Danseuse de corde and made by Marc Gonthier between 1920 and 1954, shows a ballerina in a short tutu balancing on a taut tightrope with her arms extended. Spectators watch from the upper tiers of a dim hall, while a wooden trestle holding a balance pole stands at the right edge of the composition.
