About this work
This engraved print titled Vengeance de Léontès, after John Opie, was made by Jean-Pierre-Marie Jazet. It shows a bearded old man presenting a sword to an armored figure in a leopard-print cloak, while an infant lies on a white bed beside a group of halberd-bearing guards and courtiers. The scene is rendered in dramatic tonal contrast beneath a vaulted arch, with French text inscribed below the image.
