About this work

A monochrome engraving shows a wounded soldier on a white horse, accompanied by a woman carrying a child and a young drummer boy, moving along a rough path past fallen helmets and bodies. A farmhouse and mounted officers appear at right while an army is visible in the distance under a heavy sky. The print is titled Le champ de bataille from the series La vie d'un soldat, after Hippolyte Bellangé, engraved by Jean-Pierre-Marie Jazet in 1841.
