About this work
A monochrome print shows a group of uniformed men gathered on a rocky outcrop above turbulent waves, with a kneeling figure in white at the center. In the foreground, a cannon, a shattered boat, and a tablet with inscriptions drift in the surf, while a laurel branch floats nearby. A larger assembly of officers and soldiers stands in the misty background beneath a shaft of light. The print is Jean-Pierre-Marie Jazet's 1830 work after Horace Vernet, titled Apothéose de Napoléon.
