About this work
A pen-and-ink illustration in muted colour shows a man in a flowing cloak drawing a sword amid tangled branches, while a crouching figure beside him looks up at a swirling mass of pale, wide-eyed spirits rising from the dark foliage under a starry sky. The work is attributed to Arthur Rackham and dated 1909, and its title refers to driving the company through hill and dale.
