About this work
An engraved oval portrait in profile shows a woman with an elaborate upswept powdered hairstyle, a low lace-trimmed neckline, and a classical ornamental frame. Below the oval, a rectangular cartouche carries the title and a French verse inscription, all within a decorative border of flowers and drapery.
