About this work
An engraved interior scene shows a seated woman in a striped gown writing a letter at a draped table while a man in a long coat holds a candle beside her. A small dog sits at her feet and a heavy curtain with a tassel fills the upper right. Verse inscriptions in French appear beneath the image, and the plate is attributed to Fessard after Chardin.
