About this work
A colored lithographic plate titled Germanen am Quell shows a group of muscular, partly clad men gathered around a waterfall that pours into a dark pool. One figure kneels in the foreground drinking from cupped hands while others crowd behind, and a bearded man stands at right holding a spear. The print, produced in 1909 by Wilhelm Hoffmann, A.G. carries the German caption and the plate number Tafel 2 along its margins.
