About this work
This engraved plate shows an ornate console-style cartouche with floral garlands and scrolling acanthus leaves supporting a central coat of arms within a circular frame. Above the ledge rests a trophy of military and symbolic objects, including a spear, a shield with an eagle, a peacock, a bust, and a large oval mirror-like frame. The plate is numbered 32 at upper right and bears the caption Espagne, attributed to Jean-Charles Delafosse, dated 1768 to 1771.
